Corylus avellana 'Wepster'

Prohibited from shipping to Oregon.

Wepster is a very productive and flavorful nut, developed for the chocolate and nut industry, that ripens early in the season. It is newly developed by OSU and named for the nut tree pioneering Wepster family.

It blooms early-midseason and McDonald, Wepster and Polly-O are excellent pollinizers. The vigorous, open-shaped, completely blight-resistant tree, is easily maintained at 10' tall, requires little training and is a reliable producer.

Cold Hardy to USDA Zone: 5

Mature Height:  10'-12'

Sun: Full Sun to Part Shade

Ripening Time: August - September

Pollination: Needs a Early-Blooming Pollenizer

Hapy "Wepster" hazelnut in PA, zone 6B/7a.

I planted "Wepster" hazelnut from Raintree Nursery in spring 2019. Now it is mature tee of 10 ft tall and produces tasty nuts. Nuts are not large, but there is very little free space between shell and kernel. Therefore, kernels are of comparable size to industrial hazelnuts, just 10-20% smaller. However, the flavor is wonderful. The tree is healthy, I see no signs of blight or any other disease. Wery well crosspollinate with "McDonald" hazelnut.

Raintree sells unhealthy plants and refuses to follow its stated refund policies.

My hazelnuts didn't arrive until more than a month after I had ordered them - they were completely dried out, with all leaves dead. Raintree's refund policy states that it will approve claims for potted plants that have leafed out but arrive dead, but it refused to give me a refund, insisting that I plant the hazelnut and keep watering it for a month before they'd consider whether to give me a refund.

Poor Condition

This plant arrived with its leaves dead. Rather than replacing it, Raintree told me to wait it out and that it would "probably" leaf out. Even if it does, this results in a plant that is greatly weakened and probably can't be planted out until the end of the season. This isn't what I paid for and I'm disappointed that they didn't replace the plant.

Great healthy plant.

Trees came with an infestation of aphids. The company said use dish soap, I did but it didn’t help.

Beautiful strong plants

Hazelnuts bushes arrived looking absolutely healthy, larger than I expected, and are growing wonderfully. Very happy with my purchase. Only wish I had ordered them earlier because Spring is a busy time for shipments, and I had to wait for them several weeks, and missed the early Spring planting time. But over all I give the plants 5 stars.

Webster hazelnut

In general tree came in a fair condition, some of the leaves were yellowish. Planted it right away. It is still getting used to new soil & it was hit by freezing temps.
