Wepster is a very productive flavorful nut, developed for the chocolate, nut industry that ripens early in the season. The vigorous, open shaped, completely blight resistant tree, is easily maintained at 10' tall, requires little training and is a reliable producer. It blooms mid season and McDonald and York are excellent pollinizers. It is newly developed by OSU and named for nut tree pioneering Wepster family.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Would these do well in South Texas? Could I use two+ for pollination with each other?

Hazlenuts have never been grown successfully in Texas on any scale. Depending on your location and microclimate they may or may not survive. They are not self fertile and need another variety for cross pollination.

  • How far apart would a Wepster and a McDonald need to be planted?

As close as you like, roughly 16 foot centers, and no more than 80-100 feet apart.

In general tree came in a fair condition, some of the leaves were yellowish. Planted it right away. It is still getting used to new soil & it was hit by freezing temps.
