Weymouth Blueberry
Vaccinium corymbosum 'Weymouth'
Weymouth is a blast from the past! Early blooming and early ripening, Weymouth produces luscious, dark blue, sweet, medium-sized berries and makes an excellent early season pollen source for pollinators. This heritage variety was once widely planted, but fell out of favor for the softness of its berries, which did not ship well - but longtime East Coast u-pick growers (and customers!) have always treasured the rich, satisfying flavor of the fruit. Thanks to a resurgence in backyard berry growing we are proud to be able to help bring this old favorite back into wide spread cultivation!
Northern highbush grows tall and rugged, needing standard chill hours of 800-1000 to bloom and set fruit regularly. Regularly moist soil, high organic matter and thick mulch over acidic soils of 4.5 ph will keep this heritage variety robust and productive.
