Yellow Fruited Cornus Mas
Cornus mas 'Yellow'
Prohibited to FL
Originally known as Yantarnyi (meaning "amber"), this unusual color of fruit is the result of expert breeder Svitlana Klymenko and her Ukranian breeding program. Introduced in 1982, this hardy and productive beauty produces a fluffy foam of yellow flowers late in winter, has dainty dogwood pointed oval leaves, and is loaded with unique oval yellow fruit 1 inch long each fall. The tasty yellow fruit has a more delicate and fragrant character than its red cousins, each weighing an average of 3.5g with a sugar content of 9.6%. A fantastic fruit for cold zone gardeners and growers looking to expand their bloom window - C. mas is usually the first thing to bloom in the orchard, starting in February!
Cornelian cherry is unusually carefree; not prone to disease or pest attack. Reliably productive - average yield of mature 15' tree is over 80 pounds! Use another C. mas variety as a pollinizer.
