QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I’m new to this but is there anything I can plant that will bear fruit the same season!? I have added Reine Des Vallees Alpine strawberries and Arapaho thornless blackberries to my cart bc I think that’s what they will do?

Everbearing raspberries (primocane bearing), strawberries of all kinds, and blackberries should all produce fruit the same year. Many of our blueberries and lingonberries are also old enough to bear fruit the same year they are planted.

  • floricanes?

Yes, early season floricane (earlier than most).

Raspberries

I planted the raspberries right after I received them in a nice sunny spot and I have been watching for any sign of shoots or leaves but nothing so far and I am starting to be concerned!

I planted one bare root plant back in early April of 2022 and I can say for certain that these are an absolute unit of a raspberry plant. The first year it was only the one cane and this year (the second year) there's about 15 new canes growing. I did not expect it to fruit the first year bit it did, and quite late in the season, but only on about the top 6 inches. The taste is a classic raspberry taste and is quite juicy, very nice. Keep in mind that these plants do have spines all over, quite like a hedgehog. It's mildly annoying when it's their first season but can hurt if you catch them wrong in the second season. This year the original cane is flush with ripening berries, probably about a 2 and a half foot section, with the entire cane being somewhere between 3 and four feet tall. It's a good choice if you want a lot of raspberries in your future.

Plants are in the ground and are starting to sprout. Plant from last year is spreading like crazy. Very tasty berries too! Very happy, highly recommend. Now if I can just keep the deer and rabbits away.

Boyne Raspberries

I ordered three bare roots and got them planted in an old water tank, hoping to contain the spread. Also hoping that these will bear earlier in the summer than our old raspberry patch. They arrived looking great and in perfect timing to get them in right before a 18" spring snow last week.
