Aromatnaya Russian Quince

I requested this tree as a Christmas gift from my mother-in-law. I received it bare root in March, I followed the directions on the YouTube channel for planting. I didn't see any signs of life, so I called and left a voicemail. Laura called me back and was very sweet, and gave me tips on pruning it, to encourage growth. It's been two months and my tree is still a brown stick, with zero signs of life. I performed five scratch tests and it is dead all the way to the roots. I'm super frustrated because I was told to wait and give it a chance to wake up. It's nearly summertime here now and the tree is not going to wake up. I'm hoping that Raintree nursery will do the right thing and get me a replacement tree, even though it's now outside of the 30 days. It was not when I called and asked for help deciding if my tree was alive or dead. I have four apple trees, two peach trees, two pear trees, and five fig trees that are alive and thriving and have fruit on them. This one has never even had a leaf. Please help. I was so excited about this tree, and now I'm just disappointed.

This quince has never shown any sign trying to grow a leaf or flower or anything. I followed all the directions on their YouTube site and planted it the day that it arrived, so I really don't understand what the problem was. I have left a voicemail message with these details, so I'm hoping that the company will work with me on getting a replacement.

AROMATNAYA RUSSIAN QUINCE came dry with no evidence of live buds and remain dry over planting and watering 40 days. Bottom line: AROMATNAYA RUSSIAN QUINCE was shipped dead!

Waiting for a couple of years to get these. Had them at my old house and they did very well. In the ground and fenced off waiting for leaves to come out. Would recommend you buy two trees because one is just not enough. I planted pineapple, limon, and havron varieties but still think Russians are the best🌳

Although the tree did not make it, the owner quickly issued credit to make it fair.

Arrived too early, hard to tell in 7 days if it is dead or alive. The tree had very small rootstock, perhaps dead since last season. By the time the other tree started budding it was too late to make a claim.

So far for the 2nd time I have received a dead tree and it has costed me in shipping charges more than what a full grown tree would cost totally dissatisfied

The tree arrived in excellent condition, I planted it, and it looks healthy! After eating quince everywhere in southern and central Europe, and knowing about it's history in the early American colonies, I've always wanted a quince tree! Highly recommend Raintree Nursery!

We ordered two quince and when they arrived they were unpackaged and kept moist. They were planted within three days and watered regularly. The buds never swelled or produced leaves. We recently took them out as they appeared dead

I bought and planted exactly this tree 6 years ago from this company... It grows well on the full sun - more than 11 feet now, now it is a big tree. It is blooming well every spring - a lot of flowers, but the problem is that it is not producing! All the flowers dry out and fall, they do not produce fruits. Any help! I have been waiting for it more than 5 years!! If I get help in this matter, I will change my rating from 1 to 5... So far 1. Thank you!

This is the second quince I ordered from RTN. The first was a Turkish one and leafed out within 2 weeks of planting. The Russian one is, so far, quiet but I have great hopes for it. It arrived nicely snuggled and completely intact. TY RTN.

While this is the most wonderfully pruned tree, it is a foot shorter than the advertised 4-5 feet.

tree arrived healthy and with some small leaf buds - no branches though it is an unbranched though robust whip.

At first I was just happy to find one of these trees in stock so I ordered it in January. The tree arrived in late March and it was still dormant. I was very impressed by how large it was and how extensive it root system was. I put it in a large landscaping pot immediately, because its permanent home isn't ready yet. About a week of mild temperatures and partial sun woke it from its slumber and it's getting ready to start leafing out. I'm thrilled with this purchase and so happy I found this nursery.

Out of the shipping box, the Quince looks like a strong healthy plant - it's in the ground and hopefully ok in the snow and cold front that has come in.

Mom got this variety of quince some years ago. It has grown up to 20 tall and gives a few humongous, superb oblong fruits each year. We allowed suckers from the rootstock to grow and they made a small grove about 15 in diameter. The quince from the rootstock are also great, though not as large or flavorful as aromatnaya. Like you wrote, great fresh sliced thin and excellent for cooking. Couldn t be happier with this product. Thank you! We are in southern California mountains area, zone 9b.

We planted a smyrna quince (3 years ago) and an aromatnaya quince (5 years ago). Both varieties are delicious cooked in a crumble or canned and served over a shortcake. The smyrna is noticeably more tart, even when cooked with 30% more sugar. We prefer the smyrna with shortcake or in fritters where the tartness is buffered a little. The cooked or canned aromatnaya is more mild, more like an apple sauce but a lot chunkier. Cooked aromatnaya quince is delicious by itself. In our growing conditions, you could eat the aromatnaya quince straight off of the tree if you were really, really hungry, but it is a little too sour and (slightly) astringent to really enjoy. We live in northwest Washington state (Concrete). We have found both trees easy to grow and generous in fruiting. Our geese love any fallen fruit.

I thought I would try a quince and this variety sounded good. It’s unbelievably good. Like a cross between an apple and a pear, with the best attributes of each. The second summer after planting the tree was LOADED with fruit, even after no fertilizer and careless watering in HOT weather. I didn’t pick the fruit until one dropped off, then I picked them all. I put them directly into a big kettle of boiling water and simmered for 20 min. Then I peeled and cored them. Delicious! I even made quince pizza with them, I liked them so much. Plus, the Spring flowers are prettier than you can imagine. Where has this tree been all my life?
