Diospyros kaki 'Hachiya'

The variety is most often found in stores. The 4-inch-long, acorn-shaped fruit is deep orange when ripe, and very sweet and flavorful. Great dried. Astringent until ripened off the tree and eaten when soft. Sweeter than the non-astringent Fuyu-style varieties. The shiny green leaves explode with vivid fall color and the orange fruits persist long into fall, making this tree one of the treats of the autumn landscape.

Fruit is late to ripen and soften; best grown in locations with long, hot growing season. Low chill; only needs 200 hours below 45F to successfully set fruit. Regular water during the mid-to-late summer and fall will keep fruits succulent. Doesn't need a pollinizer.

USDA Zone: 8-11

Grow Height: 15'

Sun: Full Sun

Ripening Time: November

Pollination: Self Fertile

After many years, I give Hachiya a thumbs up

I planted a Hachiya roughly 15 years ago. The tree is located in less than optimal sun, and doesn't get much water (I'm located on a wetland and with my shade, I don't have to worry about water). It took a long time to come into bearing. The first fruits that came off this tree were still astringent when soft. Years following, they were bland but lost astringency. Then finally last year the tree pumped out 20 pounds of fruit, even after lots of thinning, and the fruit quality is very good.

Totally worth the wait - no pest or disease issues. Give it a little more care than I did and you're likely to experience quality fruit sooner than I did.

I have received and planted my tree

I have received and planted my tree. No signs of new growth just yet, but I am hopeful. My last shipped tree did not survive but was not through Raintree.

Raintree Trees are THE BEST

I absolutely love Raintree. Yes, these are a bit more expensive than the bare root trees you find at commercial nurseries, but the quality MORE than makes up for the few extra dollars. I have fairly extensive orchards and am always used to losing a tree here and there. However, I have NEVER lost a single tree I purchased from Raintree. It's quality you can trust. I purchased and planted this Hachiya persimmon two years ago, and it took off like wildfire from the moment it was planted. Am now thinning fruit off like crazy as it is so very productive. I generally graft my own trees now, but any time I need something to move along a bit more quickly, I turn to Raintree. Fantastic products, fantastic people!

Looking good 👍

Arrived in good condition, I did plant it in a 15 gallon nursery pot for now and it's already starting to bud out. Will keep it in pot until next winter/early spring to plant it in the ground.
Thanks raintreenursery.com 🍻

HACHIYA PERSIMMON

This tree arrived in great condition, very well packaged for shipping. I have planted it and it is very healthy and actively growing! Will have to wait a few years until it begins bearing fruit. So far, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Awesome persimmon!

I looked at every nursery in my area for a Hachia persimmon and no one had one. Ordering a tree online is rather expensive but Raintree was the cheapest.

The tree arrived in great shape and dormant (Best way to ship a tree to prevent damage) and since I planted it, it about to putforth leaves and looks very healthy!

I wouldn't hesitate purchasing again!
