Cydonia oblonga 'Pineapple'

Heavy crops of large, intensely fragrant, firm and sweet/tart fruit are used in baking and jellies. Enjoy the profuse, ornamental display of large single, white blooms tinged with dusky rose. Cold hardy, yet has a low chilling requirement of 300 hours. A Luther Burbank selection; Burbank spend decades developing a variety that would cook quickly and without the woody internal patches that could be found on other old varieties.

At the turn of the 20th century almost every rural family had a fruiting quince tree they relied on for medicine, pectin, and fragrant, long-lasting fruits. The varieties we offer have delightful pineapple-like flavors. They are prized for cooking, jelly making, and adding to apple cider. Quince trees are self fertile and showy, with big white blossoms in late spring and unusual, fuzzy yellow fruits in fall.

    Not specifically, no.

  • Is this shipped bare root or in a container?

    This is shipped bareroot.

  • How tall will this grow? The item listing gives “Grow Height: 11'” but also “ Size: Semi-Dwarf (4'-5')” for the single variety-size combination listed.

Great Customer Service

There was some damage to our Quince when it arrived. After emailing Raintree Nursery customer service, I received an immediate reply about how I could save the tree I had ordered, and even though it wasn't what I was expecting, it could indeed thrive. In the meantime, Laura looked for another Quince for us (albeit it was late in the season), and wonderfully found one and mailed it to us immediately. Great follow-up and willingness to help. Thank you, Laura, and Raintree Nursery staff!!!

best tasting baked fruit

Planted in 2012 and maintained at 8 or 9 feet tall and maybe 10 to 12 foot wide with about a 4 or 5 inch wide trunk- looks like a perfectly lollypop shaped minature tree.
No problems with any disease on the tree or fruit and no pests are apparent. I have gotten up to 40 pounds of fruit off that tree but I got alot less the next three years- I should have thinned them much more! The fruit split in half and cored baked covered in foil with butter at 350 F for 1 hour is maybe the most intensely flavored of all. Tart but not sour like a lemon- a little honey on top would help anyone that doesnt like tart. The flavor is sort of like pineapple- the smell is very intense and it smell like tropical fruits. The room you have it in will wsmell delicious for 4 or 5 days. Texture when cooked is a little softer than well baked acorn squash and with fine grain and no fibers, color is golden yellow. No need to peel when baking, the skin is less than paper thin and very soft. Get one if you like strong flavor and the smell is worth having alone. Probably took 3 years before first fruit

Pineapple Quince arrived in great shape, well packaged

I have previously ordered two cherry and one grape vine from Raintree, all in amazing condition. (I am in RI, zone 6B...The cherry trees are covered in blooms this year!)
Banking on the quality of those trees, I ordered the Sauzee King Nectarine and a the Pineapple Quince. Both arrived in amazing condition with well developed trunks, and were pruned expertly. They have just started to leaf bud out, but look like they will be awesome trees! I highly recommend Raintree nursery, I am impressed with the quality of trees I have received:)
