OK to MI & OH because Prince Consort is blight resistant.

Space these easy-to-grow rust resistant plants 3' apart to create a bushy, 5' tall hedge, and be ready to harvest loads of large fruit. Consort has a very strong flavor. It was developed in Ottawa, Canada about 1950.

Black currants have outstanding health benefits, including high Vitamin C content, up to 5 times that of oranges by weight. They have twice the potassium of bananas and twice the antioxidants of blueberries. The antioxidants, essential fatty acids and potassium in black currants have anti- inflammatory impact, reducing the effects of arthritis. Its antioxidant action has been shown to help prevent cancer. The strong flavor of Black Currants is highly prized in Europe, even fresh, but most Americans prefer them made into jam, syrup or dried as raisins. Partially self fertile plants produce best with another variety of R. nigrum for cross-pollinization. Bushes will grow to 4-5’ tall. We offer well rooted 1-year bushes. USDA Zones 3-8.

  • i live in california , i guess its not my zone but can it grow in a green house?

    Currants do not tolerate heat very well. You could attempt to grow it in the shade, but a greenhouse would be too much.

  • I live in NW Louisiana, zone 8b, would Currants grow here? IF so, can Red Currants pollenate Black Currants or should I have two or more Black varieties? could you recommend good varieties for my location please?

    Currants genreally do not do well in the heat and even in the shade might suffer in your area. You might try clove currants, which despite the similar name are not the same plant. Crandall and Missouri Giant are examples.

  • I live in Michigan, it says may be shipped to Michigan by permit. Do you obtain the permit or would I have to?

    You will need to obtain a permit from your local Department of Argiculture.

Healthy and sturdy on arrival

Both of my Black currants came in very good condition. I already planted them. It was very well packed, with good root system. I hope they will survive in our hot climate. I certainly recommend.

Black current consort

My product arrived in good condition the roots were still moist. I soaked them in water for two days like was recommended in the email that was sent to me.
