Ribes rubrum 'Rolam'
Prohibited to DE, ME, NC, NH & WV, and by permit only to MA and NJ
Direct from breeders in the Netherlands comes this cross of Jonkeer Van Tets and Rosetta. Enjoy large berries on long strigs, with rich, medium-red color. Good fruit quality prized by home garden and commercial growers. Very heavy yielding.
Mildew and leaf spot resistant. Ripens mid-season, beginning in the middle of July for us in the PNW. Red currants are self-fertile but will yield more with a different variety of R. rubrum as a pollinizer. Prefers full sun in cool summer climates, and part shade in warm summer regions. Cold hardy to USDA Zone 3 (-40F).
Red currants are among the most beautiful of edible ornamentals. With their full complement of gorgeous red currant clusters, these bushes are stunningly beautiful ornamentals. The attractive fruit and foliage and resistance to mildew and leaf spot make our red currant selections favorites for the edible landscape. Bright, shiny, red clusters of fruit are striking in the garden and they enhance any dish to which they are added. High quality fruit is excellent for jams, jellies and sauces, and it has considerable health benefits, including high quantities of vitamin C and potassium.
