Pyrus communis 'Red Clapp's Favorite'

Also called 'Red Kalle'. This large pear from Michigan is exceptionally beautiful, with amazing reddish/purple fruits that hang like jewels from the tree. The fruit is sweet and flavorful.

It thrives in the Pacific Northwest and in much of the nation - and shows some resistance to cedar trellis rust. It ripens midseason, in September here in the PNW. It blooms late, category 3, and is a good pollinizer.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Any chance I can pear ;-) this with Moonglow for pollination? Thank you!

Moonglow is an early bloomer, while Red Clapps is a late bloomer, so they will not consistently overlap in bloom time.

Looks very promising!

Plating a tree here is never a guarantee that we'll get a mature tree, but the saplings that we got from Raintree look really promising. They were packed very well, and we got timely shipping notifications so that we could be ready. They're big enough to stand a chance against the rabbits and ground squirrels.
We've been looking for a red pear tree to replace one that was badly damaged by a badger burrowing into the roots. We couldn't find anything locally under $100, so when we saw Raintree's price, we ordered two. We're very satisfied with what we got, and we have already ordered other stock. We have recommended Raintree to other people.
