Ribes rubrum 'Viking'

Prohibited to DE, ME, NC, NH & WV, and by permit only to MA and NJ

Popularly known as 'Rote Hollandische', the Viking currant is a red powerhouse cultivar with origins in Norway. Highly resilient to white pine blister, it is an excellent choice for growers seeking a low-maintenance, high-yield crop. With its vigorous growth, cold tolerance, and exceptional disease and pest resistance, this currant variety outshines its counterparts. Additionally, it produces delectable red berries that are guaranteed to please even the most critical taste buds.

Highly resilient to white pine blister rust. Reliably self-fertile, yields will increase with a different R. rubrum variety as a pollinizer. Prefers full sun in cool summer areas and part shade in warmer regions. Cold hardy to USDA zone 3 (-40F).

I received my Viking red current plants several days ago, got them planted and they are doing fantastic.

Healthy plant, started producing in the second year

I have received the plant in Spring 2025. It has grown well and produced a bit this Summer. Now it keeps growing. This is a healthy plant and I am quite happy.

I never received it

I'd like to write a glowing review of this currant bush, but I can't because I don't have it.
As of today I'd be on the third week of waiting for it.

The delivery was derailed (not by me) and was returned to Raintree Nursery in Morton, WA https://www.ups.com/track?loc=en_US&requester=ST&trackNums=1Z8329890399235719/trackdetails

Since then, Raintree won't return my calls or EMails, and yesterday one of their customer service people admitted they had NO IDEA were my plant even was! (after my 5th call to them)
Then when I decided to cancel the order and request a refund she insisted on trying to talk over me instead off listening to my reasons.
This has been one of the worst customer service experiences I have EVER HAD.

And I spent 35 years in the Customer Service industry, so I know how this is SUPPOSED to work.
Need a plant/bush/tree?. Call Stark Bros. instead.

So pleased!

Arrived in a timely fashion and is thriving! My great grandmother used to make currant pies for the holidays and I cannot wait to taste that sweet and tart berry again! Thanks so much!
