Prairie Star® American Persimmon

Planted about 4 years ago and real slow growing until this year with close to 20 inches new growth (now taller than me) and looks like it also has fruit starting to form. Haven t tasted it yet but getting excited.

I grew up visiting my grandmother s giant persimmon tree, and I ve had hight hopes, so far dashed. My Meader persimmon died, and the Prairie Star always seems to be about to give up the ghost. I know it breaks dormancy late, so I m patient with it, but this is the first spring it s shown any real signs of life, with some good leafing out and bright lime-green leaves. It s possible I ve been underwatering it, since the winds here dry out trees extremely quickly, so I ll keep coaxing it along. If I get persimmons in five years, I ll think myself extremely lucky.
