Prunus avium 'Early Burlat'

Why wait for the cherry season to start? Why not eat large, dark red, flavorful cherries from the tree a week or two before everyone else?

Early Burlat is moderately vigorous and spreading, reliably productive every year and also resistant to bacterial canker and to cracking. It is fast becoming a backyard favorite! On Gisela 5 rootstock.

Gisela 5 is a dwarfing rootstock, 50% of standard size, that induces heavy early fruit production. Trees can be maintained at 10 to 12 feet tall. Gisela 5 is more forgiving of shallow soils and a better choice than the even more dwarfing Gisela 3 for people with enough room for this somewhat larger tree.

Ask a Question
  • What would be a recomended polinizer for this cherry? I have Bing, but that variety blooms too late for Burlap to be polinated.

Lapins and Sweetheart are both excellent long blooming cherries for pollinating trees like this one.

  • What are the chill hours?

    500+ chilling hours.

Trees arrived in good shape

Nice looking tree

This tree arrived in great shape from its shipping. It was ready to leaf out and is starting to do that now. It has a surprising number of branches, which is great, and the trunk is quite thick. It is only 40" from the ground to the pruned tips at the top, but it looks like it has been growing for a few years.
