Vaccinium corymbosum 'Bluecrop'

Bluecrop is one of the mainstays of the blueberry industry, prized for its excellent flavor, reliability and productivity! The berries are light blue, large and flavorful, and grow in an open cluster. The plant has an upright habit, brilliant red fall foliage, and glowing red wood all winter long.

This Northern Highbush variety is a solid midseason producer requiring 800+ chill hours to reliably bloom and set fruit. Prefers regularly moist, acidic soils.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • do both of the blueberry varieties need to pollinate & ripen at the same time ?

Blueberries all bloom at the same time, but ripen more quickly or slowly. You only need two different blueberries of the same species for cross pollination. Ripening time isn't a factor.

  • How old are the blueberry plants that you sell?

Potted blueberries are 1-2 years old.

  • I am looking for the best blueberry and black currant plans growing in San Jose California. Please, advise. Alex

Rabbiteye blueberries, which this is not one of, will grow in your area. but Northern Highbush will not do well. Black currants do not tolerate the Southern California climate and will struggle.

  • I recently purchased 1 pink icing, 1 Olympia, and 1 bluecrop from you. I'm looking at the mature height and width of each plant and I was wondering if planting them about 2 feet apart from each other would eventually crowd them out?

Eventually yes and they will compete for space sooner than you think. 4 feet is the practical minimum spacing.

Even though this is a young small plant, I can tell it’s going to thrive! Had many blossoms… This is the type of healthy plant I’ve come to expect from Raintree.

Bluecrop bare root purchase

Ordered 2 bare root plants, both arrived well packaged. Both plants are in good shape and in the ground already showing growth on the branch ends. Thanks!
