This variety, Nordland Bergfeige is originally from Switzerland and considered among the hardiest figs. It is able to survive to 10 degrees F and possibly lower. It is a brownish fig and very sweet and tasty. It was recommended to us as a good choice for cooler maritime climates and it has proven to thrive at the WSU Mt. Vernon station in Western Washington.

This variety is grown from tissue culture and has been heat-treated to significantly reduce the presence of Fig Mosaic Virus.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Is this variety the same as a Longue D'aute?

Yes, Nordland is the Swiss name for the same cultivar.

  • We are in Zone 6 (N. Idaho). Is fig mosaic virus going to be an issue with this tree in our growing zone?

If it is present in your area it is possible, but it does not spread readily without assistance from mites or infected gardening tools. Our figs are tissue cultured to make sure that they FMV free.

  • Do these ever come in bare root?

No, they are tissue cultured in pots and are not barerooted.

Arrived very well-packaged and in great shape!

I’ve purchased several times from Raintree and have been happy each time. This was no different. My Nordland appeared to be healthy upon opening and has done well through re-potting with minimal transplant shock. Would recommend.

Nordland Fig

The plant looks healthy. It arrived with no leaves, but is beginning to swell some buds at the nodes. It had good looking roots and so I assume it will do well.
