Camellia sinensis 'Sochi'

Tea plants, originally native to China and Southeast Asia, are very important plants for humans worldwide. The green and black tea drinks made from drying and/or fermenting the leaves have been consumed for thousands of years; today, tea is the second most-consumed beverage in the world! Additionally, its habitual consumption has long been associated with health benefits against a wide array of diseases and conditions.

Our variety is propagated from seed gathered at tea plantations in Sochi, Russia along the Black Sea, the northernmost area where tea is grown commercially. This variety is the most cold-tolerant variety available.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I just received my tea plant in the mail, and I’m excited to plant it, but am debating between a few places, and I would love an opinion. One place would be on an east facing wall, so it would get some beautiful morning sun another spot would be on a west facing wall, so it would get some more intense afternoon sun. Do either of those places sound like the plant would be happier? I live in zone a place that fluctuates between zone eight and nine.

Morning sun is prefferable for tea plants.

  • Is this plant Camellia Sinensis Sinensis or Camellia Sinensis Assamica?

    Camellia Sinensis Sinensis
