QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • does this really get up to 6 feet in height? when researching, i found this gets up 10-12 feet...is this a different variety of york or a dwarf?

Depending on conditions York averages a height of 6 to 8 feet tall.

  • how long will it take for the 2 year barefoot to produce fruit. Would the 2 quart live plant bear sooner?

Elderberries begin bearing quickly, sometimes the same year. The bareroot plants are older and will size up sooner.

Too early to tell

Because of the weather here in upstate NY, I just put the plant in the ground a few days ago. It came without any buds so I will have to wait a while to evaluate it.

York elderberry

It was in pretty bad shape. Put it in a substantial pot with a good mix of soil and compost and have yet to see any growth. This was 12 days ago. A couple branches broken so trimmed those and cuts indicated stems green. In protected sunny spot right next to the 2 Nova’s I plan to plant it with this fall. Roots seemed fine but shouldn’t I see some growth by now???
